Senator Valerie Woods says party is standing on principle, like Dean Barrow

Is the P.U.P., like the U.D.P. did when it refused to participate in the 2005 inquiry into Social Security, hurting itself and the people of Belize by reducing the number of voices involved in the investigation? Senator Valerie Woods contends that like the then-leader of the Opposition Dean Barrow, the P.U.P. is standing on principle.

Valerie Woods, Opposition Senator

“You cannot fault senators appointed by the opposition to say it’s a joke, it’s a circus, we will not validate your circus. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, just as the teachers right now are telling the government, we are not going to validate your false promises. No, we want you to be serious, there is absolutely nothing wrong with h and number three back in 2005 when the now PM but then opposition said we will not participate, there was not outcry against that. He stood on a principle position because he wanted it to be the irony of ironies, he wanted it to be far more independent and impartial than the five. And now it is they who are now putting in six and limiting the terms of reference, Belizeans are not fool and after 2005 they got a lot of education and one that I am particularly proud of in the history of our country; because it should have taught all of us something.”

Senator Woods also pointed out that the Police need not wait for the Senate inquiry to conduct its own investigation into the report. The Committee meets Wednesday with at least five Senators: Dr. Carla Barnett, Aldo Salazar, Elena Smith, Mark Lizarraga and Ashley Rocke.
