Man Charged With “Going Equipped” to Burglarize House

Michael Usher

A neighbourhood watch on Coral Grove Drive, Belize City, and quick response to a burglary in progress led to the arrest of a well-known criminal figure of Guadalupe Street. This morning, thirty-year old Michael Usher was arraigned before Senior Magistrate, Sharon for going equipped in respect of a burglary at the house of Udeen Ooper at about one o’clock in the morning. Ooper was away on vacation when Usher was busted with a flashlight and screwdriver which were to be used in the commission of the burglary. Usher pleaded not guilty to that charge and is expected to be charged with other offenses. Bail was denied after strong objections were made by the prosecution.  Usher told the court that the police is fabricating the story against him.  He explained to Senior Magistrate, Sharon Fraser that he has friends on Coral Groove area and when he detained he was walking to his home via a short cut. In a report, police say that Sergeant Briceño and P.C. Choc at around one a.m., saw a man jump over the fence of a residence. The suspect was captured in a bushy area minutes later.
