Parents Freed of Charge over Unsupervised Minor

Stephanie Ortiz

Thirty-one year old Stephanie Ortiz, and her common-law husband, forty-one year old Solomon Francis Alvarez were taken to court late on Monday afternoon to answer to a very unusual charge of allowing a child to be unsupervised.  The fourteen-year-old child was found wandering before eleven on Monday night on Glen Street, Belize City. The couple was detained as part of ACP Chester Williams’ way of cracking down on minors found on the streets after late hours.  Alvarez and Ortiz put up a defence and in the end Magistrate Aretha Ford dismissed the charge and they were free to go without being fined or jailed.  According to Alvarez, he was dragged out of bed, taken into custody and then charged even though his stepson does not live with them. Stephanie told the court that the child lives with her mother and the court told the couple that they still had responsibility for the minor. On the day he was picked up, Stephanie claimed that he had been sent to his grandmother, but he did not go there. They were advised to take the matter to the Belize Family Court for action.

Shame! A whole lot of delinquent parents in Belize. If you cannot raise children then DON”T BIRTH THEM! Simple as that!

He is not a child nor adult, but being out at night during those hours, calls for some probation time for the mother. She needs to be monitored, hopefully she doesn’t have younger children.

I support government to pass out a bill to castrate people like these. All those drunk fathers and mothers and weed heads who do not take care of their children and also all the criminals should not be having children.
