With all the activities planned for this weekend, Police are preparing for any eventuality. There are two different concerts that will be happening across the city; the wet fete, the J’ouvert as well as the carnival on Saturday. Then of course, there are the twentieth night activities and the Independence Day presentations. So how prepared is the department in safeguarding the public? Thousands are expected to be taking part in the different fetes and police are working overtime. Here’s how they are preparing.

ACP Dezerie Phillips, Regional Commander, Eastern Division North

“Definitely, we have been stepping up our presence and patrols in the entire Belize City area as well as across the country. But I’ll speak for Belize City, particularly like you rightly mentioned, majority of these events coming up that leads into the twenty-first of September, majority of them are happening here on the north side. We are very prepared for these events. We have been preparing for quite some time. Persons will see increased numbers of police officers across the north side. We have police officers specifically dedicated to work these events and these are apart from police officers we have doing our regular patrols within our strategic areas and our areas of focus and concern. We also have our business community that will also have increased police presence. So we are very prepared for it and we want to encourage members of the community, the public, to come out. Feel free to come out and participate in these events and feel pretty safe to be out there cause we are out there to protect you.”
