Education Minister reminded of his actions in 2005

The battles between the powerful union and the second most powerful man in Belize revolve mostly around their disagreement on how far the union is taking its issues. But Faber has also personally criticized Luke Palacio for acting on political motivations. Palacio seemed loath to respond but used the example of the infamous events of 2005 to show how quickly things have changed, yet stayed the same.

Luke Palacio, National President, B.N.T.U.

“You know in Belize we tend to have short term memory, you must ask the minster since you are asking us to clarify what he seems to understand, ask him what his understanding was of his involvement in 2005 when they had to chase him on UB campus in Belmopan, whether it was for labour related issues or national issues.

“Sir another critical point that this gentleman has made is that this rally, he sees it as purely political and some sort of mischief making exercise; can you share the unions position on that?”

Luke Palacio

“You know I wouldn’t want us to spend too much time responding to what this gentleman has said simply because it is common knowledge ion Belize, in 2005 the same B.N.T.U. was classified as being U.D.P. and now in 2016 when they are doing the same thing agitating against the same things that were happening in 2005, now they are also being called opposition by the same party that came into power on the backs of the unions based on what happened in 2005. So, I don’t know that we want to waste too much time dealing with that and responding to what he has said. But, in short we are standing up for Belize, we are standing up for what we believe will benefit this country in the future.”
