Hardline evangelical community to join appeal as interested parties

Dean Barrow

In the days that followed the Supreme Court decision, the National Evangelical Association of Belize, NEAB, and the Alliance for Defense of the Natural Family were extremely critical of the landmark ruling.  Despite their staunch position against the amended law, both religious organizations were never party to the initial claim.  The move by the government to appeal the judgment will now allow for NEAB to sign on as an interested party.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“Government was able to point out that government’s appeal on the limited basis, government’s appeal of just the one aspect of the ruling that has to do with the extension of the definition of the word sex, in fact, opens the door to all who were interested parties in the court below to make submissions across the board.  Recollect that when government took its initial position the problem was for people like Pastor Lance and Mr. Menzies, they were not interested parties and so they would be bound by what government decided.  They would have no locus standi to do anything on their own.  While that was not the case with Bishop Phillip Wright and the Anglican Church, Pastor Howell Longsworth and the Belize Evangelical Association of Churches, and certainly not the position of the Roman Catholic Church because they were all interested parties.  The feeling was, in terms of Bishop Phillip and Pastor Longsworth, they weren’t interested in an appeal.  And in terms of the Roman Catholics, the feeling was that they were not prepared to seek leave to appeal and to have the question of their standing questioned and that is the only way they would have been able to proceed if government did not open the door by itself agreeing to some form of an appeal.”

    These are good allies.
They ignore government corruption, and go after week people like faggots.
Belize needs scapegoats to draw attention away from the work of my forty thieves.
