Patrick Menzies issues kudos to Government for forward steps

Patrick Menzies

Firebrand religious and social activist Patrick Menzies has been leading the charge in demanding that government appeals Section Fifty-three.  As the head of the Alliance for the Defense of the Natural Family, he has been a part of the ongoing dialogue with government.  Despite not being a hundred percent satisfied with the outcome of today’s meeting, Menzies acknowledges that an appeal would allow for a critical look at certain sections of the Constitution. Today, he was in queue with government. And as things continue to reel, the government out of the blue announced the establishment of a so-called morality commission to be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber.

“Our declaration was overturned, Section Fifty-three, by whatever means possible… On Monday, we thought we had some pretty good strides at looking at where the government stood.  After consulting between Monday and yesterday or day before yesterday with the pastors nationwide we got to the point where we, if some of the conditions that we had set forth, which included rescinding and fixing the gender policy then re-launching.  It included fixing the HFLE Manual and then putting it back into the schools, it included constitutionalizing sex as meaning male and female only because of the fact that the previous prime minister Said Musa put gender in the Constitution and we also wanted that to be looked at as or decided to mean male or female in accordance with the way you were born physiologically and physically.  So these are things that we are interested in and also constitutionalizing marriage as being between a man and a woman.  We expected a better result from today but the appealing opens some good doors that will give opportunity to clarify a lot of things to include who decides morality and stuff like that in the country.  And other sections of the Constitution, including Twelve and Sixteen, and also the commission that was formed, I know a lot of times government, as we see in many governments, as doing things to buy time, but we see here the genuine part of government where it has been decided that this month on the twenty-sixth of September will be the first meeting.”
