Mayor Bradley brushes off backlash, says society must tackle corruption

Darrell Bradley

After his comments on the audit report earlier this week in support of a senate select investigation, Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley was criticized over the airwaves of his own party. Some U.D.P. operatives were spinning the notion that Bradley should not have taken a public position that is not in line with the government’s position on the immigration investigation. Today, Bradley didn’t mince words either.

Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor

“Well I haven’t heard that. I have looked at the issue. I am a U.D.P. supporter, I support my party and I know the reason why I got in politics and public life. And I know myself from I was a young person and people who know me know the stance that I have taken in my life growing up. And I want a country that my children can grow up in and be proud of. And I think that the U.D.P. as a party stands for those things and I believe that if there are issues that we need to address as a society, we need to address those issues as a society. OUT 16:06

IN 16:12 I applaud the Chamber of Commerce for taking a stand; I think that they are an organization with a tremendous amount of credibility. I mentioned in my comments that it was in the United Democratic Party’s manifesto previously that we had proposed legislation for unjust enrichment. I heard the talk in relation to signing on to the UN Convention…so these are not things that I think should evoke any type of disagreement. We are in a society, we want our society to work. How can any person in their right mind say anything that would promote an environment that is less transparent? You are telling me that there are issues and concerns; I actually in my mind don’t see it. I don’t see. The statements that I’ve made are that every single person should stand against corruption, including every elected person. And if there is an issue that is raised, like the audit report, it needs to be inquired into, the public has to be satisfied and I think that that has to be in a forum.”

Bradley you got Balls!!! Good for you man. Its nice to see an elected official stand up for right and wrong. It may not make you popular with the party, but it makes you popular with us the people!!!! Hope you run for PM next election……… you wont have a problem winning that position.

What I do, what I do absolutely abhor is the fact that mayor never thought it fit, knowing that Cabinet had taken a position, knowing how prominent an official of the party he is.

He should be well aware in his short career, that corruption is an inviolable right and tenet of the UDP. To speak out against corruption I find personally insulting. He will be punished in due time.
