Former Hofius employees freed of theft charges

Back in April of this year, two former Hofius employees were charged with forty-nine counts of theft for allegedly stealing about two hundred and eight-seven thousand dollars from the downtown store in Belize City.  Tonight, they are free of the charge because of the lack of evidence. The decision from the Director of Public Prosecution is dated August of this year, but it was not until September second that the Belize City Magistrate’s Court was forwarded the memo. This Monday, Koshia Gentle, a former Supervisor and Lydia Selina Bennett, a former Clerk, were informed that the charges were being dropped.  The D.P.P. also ordered that the court return all the items confiscated by police from the two accused.  In the case of Gentle, her vehicle along with documents to a land and her banking documents were taken by police as exhibits. On April eleventh, 2016, the two women were taken to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for arraignment; they were granted bail in the sum of ten thousand dollars.    The theft is alleged to have occurred between November second, 2015 and December thirty-first, 2015.

It’s no secret that the money is missing, so who took it? Is it upper management and they were being made the scapegoat? That’s a lot of money in such a short space of time. and they had to be either too brazen or too stupid or the police too dumb to conduct a proper investigation. Smells Fishy!
