Eastern Division South’s Back to School drive continues

The second of three back to school drives organized by the Eastern Division South Police Department took place today at the Raccoon Police Station. Over a hundred and twenty children from the Saint Martin’s area were the recipients of school bags and supplies courtesy of the police officers.  According to ACP Chester Williams, the drive allows for police officers to assist the youths as they prepare to go back to school.

“The Back to School program as you know…we started last year and this year, it is bigger than last year and our sponsors were very kind in giving us what we needed to make this day possible. And likewise the police officers who despite their own constraints were able to contribute to this cause and those are things that we believe needs to be commended. The community policing programs that we continue on South Side Belize City is geared at bridging the gaps between ourselves and the community and to let the community understand that as a department, we do care. Today, actually we did the St. Martin’s area and we issued over a hundred and twenty bags today. Tomorrow we will be doing Jane Usher and a couple other kids from the south side area and we will be issuing over a hundred bags again tomorrow.”

“How are they chosen?”

“They are chosen by the community policing officers going into those communities and identifying those persons who are in need and have not yet been a recipient of any such donation from any other organization.”
