B.P.P.: Belize Will Not Look “Soft” on Gay Rights Issue

Robert “Bobby” Lopez

While members of the clergy have opined on government’s stance on appealing the Supreme Court ruling, the respective political organizations are yet to fully weigh in on the matter.  So, what is the B.P.P.’s position on the striking down of Section Fifty-three?  They maintain that it is a matter for the Belizean people to decide.  Treasurer Robert “Bobby” Lopez, however, says that Belize cannot afford to be seen as “soft” on the issue:

Robert “Bobby” Lopez, Treasurer, B.P.P.

“But it is up to the people. Are we gonna sit back, lay down, be complacent and have them throw this “soft test” as it is being referred to by our Caribbean brothers, that Belize was the “soft test?” We’re not soft pops, and we refuse in the Belize Progressive Party to be treated like that or to be called – because that is essentially what it is, that message that came out from Jamaica that this is a soft test by that professor, is exactly what the international community said: “Let’s try Belize! They lay back and they accept everything!” Well, the Belize Progressive Party will not lay back and as of today, I’ll be calling on our financiers – mostly local, we are going to raise that money and we’re gonna get this off and we’re calling on all organizations, because it will be cheaper if we can get the churches, N.G.O.’s, unions, everybody to come on board and to mobilize and to make this effort a success.”

I would willing join too, this gay rights is just a trend going on in some countries who feels oh we’re tolerant I say it’s bullshit. This ain’t right painted as you want it ain’t right, it’s man to woman but not man to man, if they feel it’s their rights what about us straight people we should fight also.

Aye Bobby…I have heard your dreams of what you would like Belize to be. You unsuccessfully tried to get elected in San Pedro several times. No one took you serious. Sad truth is that you do not live in the same world we do. This man da lone bla bla bla…

    Pretty ignorant comment!

I guess based on this ignorant comment people of color should still be slaves because most of the people agreed that this should be! Fortunately a judge in courts in many parts of the world stood up to pressure and did what was just and came up with a ruling that force change.

That law should have been removed from the books without any court proceedings!

Why was not there this same vehemence when the clergy was sexually abusing children under their leadership, even though every law of the land and the world does not find this acceptable?
