New Police Minister meets top brass in Department

On Monday afternoon, a meeting was held at the Police Training Academy in Belmopan between the top brass of the Belize Police Department and the new Minister of Police Godwin Hulse. On the discussion table were issues on surging crime, particularly in rural Belize and of course the incident and those alleged friendships with accused murderer, William ‘Danny’ Mason. News Five asked Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams about that meeting today and here’s what he had to say.

ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“Well I will just say that the meeting was a very good meeting. The minister just outlined what are his plans for the department and they are very good plans and I think as a department we must learn to respect our civilian managers. We have a new minister now and we must now charter the course that the minister wants us to go. At the end of the day, it is for the betterment of our organization.”

Duane Moody

“Sir at any point did the discussion of crime come up because I know we had seen a surge—not necessarily in Belize City, but out district—addressing those issues.”

“Yes, the minister does have concerns about the crime situation and he is working with us to see how he can address those issues. Like I said, he has his plans and those plans are for us to be able to execute. And I think that the way he wants to take the department is in the right direction and from my perspective he has my full support in whatever plans he has for the department.”

Reporter

“Seeing that the minister is taking this department right after the whole scandal with William Mason, does the minister have a plan to alienate the department from those types of scandals reoccurring?”

ACP Chester Williams

“Well the minister spoke at length about the issue of ethics. Those of you who know Mister Hulse knows the type of person he is. He is a person who believes in doing things the right way. He believes in policy and so forth so I am sure that issues like those will be addressed by him.”

  1. Hatari says:

I wish him all the luck but I doubt he will be able to change such a mismanaged, inept, and corrupt department. His plans better include dumping all those big bellied so-called commanders and starting all over.
