Trio arraigned for robbing Chef Ainsley at home

A trio of men was charged with robbery and handling stolen goods and they were arraigned this morning before Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser.  Thirty-one-year-old Kareem Betancourt; twenty-year-old Jermaine Wagner, a fisherman of Neal’s Pen Road; and eighteen-year-old Lemar Lamb, are accused of stealing money and other goods from Ainsley Castro, a well-known Belize City, on Friday.  While Lamb could not be granted bail since the robbery is alleged to have occurred with the use of a firearm, the others were both granted bail of six hundred dollars each, plus one surety of the same.  Regional Commander for Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner Chester Williams, today detailed how the robbery took place and how it was successfully solved:

ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“After Chef Ainslie made his report, the police had been very much investigating; we have been out there trying to see how we could locate those persons who were involved and over the weekend, we were fortunate based on information that we received. And I want to thank the public for having that trust in feeding us information and we were successful because of the public and I must say a special thank you to those persons that have that trust and confidence in us to be able to effectively police the area. And yes, we managed to catch three persons and one of them had a phone, which was one of the phones that were stolen in that robbery. He even had a code on it which means that he shows that he had possession and everything. And based on that, we were able to move forward. We did an identification parade and they were identified and we are still looking for two persons.”
