Belize International Jazz Festival continues with concerts

Holly Edgell

A classical concert is underway at the Bliss Center for Performing Arts as part of the Belize International Jazz Festival.  That event will be followed at ten o’clock by a jam session at Spoonaz Café.  Both activities round out the third night of the annual musical showcase.  News Five spoke with Holly Edgell at the National Institute of Culture and History.

“So the Jazz Festival continues all week.  Again, there’s a mix of free and paid events.  The most expensive event we have is twenty-five dollars so it’s a really great bargain.  We have the free workshop which actually starts today, it’s not too late.  If you want to get in on the free workshops at the Bliss just call 227-2110 and ask about how you can register.  All you really have to do is let us know you’re coming and you can take part in these workshops and then most nights this week we have something going on.  Tonight and tomorrow night we have jam sessions at Spoonaz.  The cover charge is ten dollars which is pretty good.  Those are going to be primarily Belizean artists, so you can listen to some Belizean artists playing jazz.  The whole week culminates with a free concert at the Memorial Park on Saturday, again a whole host of artists.  There’s also a tribute to Lord Rhaburn coming up this week that people will want to take part in probably at Bliss.  We have all the scheduled events at the International Jazz Festival’s Facebook page, so you can check anytime there to see what’s coming up or you can simply call the Bliss at 227-2110.”
