Attorney General Vanessa Retreage Named Senator and Minister

Attorney General Vanessa Retreage was today sworn in officially in Belmopan as a Senator and Minister of Government.  The newest member of the upper house was sworn in before Senate President Lee Mark Chang and other senators at the National Assembly Building during today’s Senate meeting, according to the Press Office.  She then appeared before Governor General Sir Colville Young at Belize House to take the Oath of Allegiance as Minister of Natural Resources. She replaces Senator Godwin Hulse in that portfolio.  Retreage’s elevation comes in the wake of the Cabinet reshuffle made by Prime Minister Dean Barrow two weeks ago. She has already made history as the first woman Attorney General of Belize following her appointment after last November’s general elections.

It seems that the non elected ministers are doing a good job than the corrupted elected ministers.
I still believe that senators should be elected for six years and representatives should be elected for 4 years. Also all government bodies including town board councilors and village council members should be elected every 4 years in the same date. Why ? village council elections are becoming too expensive and normally the one that has the finance wins. During elections the party in government spends so much money that when they wind the have no money for projects in the community.

I hope Ms. Retreage keeps a close eye on the thieves within in Dept. of Lands and Surveys.
