James Adderley has Latest Sporting News

Good evening, I’m James Adderley and this is Sports Monday.

The Belize District Basketball Association completed its back matches on Friday night at the BES Gym as it prepares to stage its 8 team playoffs which gets off on the 20th and the 21st of August. We caught the matchup between 2 playoff bound teams –  Belize Bank Bulldogs took aim at Central Health. And it’s hot shot Marcel Orosco leading the Bulldogs to the quick start, knocking down this triple and would hit 4 of 6 from beyond the arc and 11 of 17 field goals to lead all scorers with the game high 30 pts. Lincey Lopez then deals to Roscoe Rhys and he too comes out on fire, knocking down the 3 pointer and wold total 19 pts at the end of regulation. down by 10, Travis Bernardez visits the bank for 2 of his team high 23 pts.

Guess what? At the end of the 1st, Bulldogs have spurted to a 14 pt lead. In the opening minutes of the 2nd quarter, point guard Lincey Lopez goes offensive for 2 of his 12 pts and tie the game high assist with his counterpart with 8. Down by 14, Neil Nicholson raises up in paint for 2 and would finish with 20 pts for Central Health. At the other end, Brian White begins to assert his presence, grabbing the rebound off the Rupert Brown miss and sticking it back for the putback to give the Bulldogs a 47-38 lead at the half. In the 3rd quarter, Central Health comes up with the antidote; Neil Nicholson floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee. And here he gives Central Health its first lead of the ballgame and the score is 56 – 55 in favor of the health people. however, it’s Belize Bank who takes the lead into the 4th quarter when Marcel Orosco dishes to Brian White who sinks the lay up for the scoreboard to show the 67 to 64 lead.

In the 4th, it’s all Bulldogs…Lincey Lopez misses the lay off the glass, but Brian White cleans up for him. Brian would post the only 2 doubles of the ballgame with 25 pts, 15 rebounds and would earn the highest efficiency rating of 41. Folks, Travis Bernardez does tie the score at 70 apiece with this nice penetration. off the inbound pass, Brian White does his thing and would make it a 3 point trip from the charity stripe. Yup, it’s White again off the pass from Roscoe Rhys and he gets the 2 pts. Rhys stretches the separation with this triple. This play shows the Bank’s dominance in the 4th – Marcel Orosco finds Lincey Lopez with the long pass; Lopes dishes to Brian White…Belize Bank Bulldogs go on to post the 100 to 87 big win. Nevertheless, both teams head to the playoffs.
