UNIBAM Celebrates Legal Victory

Simone Hill

UNIBAM President Simone Hill says that the legal victory, aside from being a significant human rights achievement in Belize, was the result of a collective effort which included input from the UWI Rights Advocacy Project, URAP.

Simone Hill, President, UNIBAM

“I remember the days when many of the men of the community who identify as gay men were clamoring to Caleb, who was at the time the president of UNIBAM, about the inhumane way of how they were being treated by people who were there to protect us in the form of the police and what to do.  And so it was a great relief one would say, with Caleb going out there looking as to how best to assist the community and then an organization or a group of people who call themselves URAP and Westmin James is a part of that team who came and assisted Caleb, did the research and things like that.  And with that, as the case moved on day in day out, there were members of the community, we don’t have to be out there Daniel, but people of the community who got, people like Kelvin Ramnarais, who created a page to assist UNIBAM and Caleb in bringing this challenge, got people to come in, everyday people, people that we consider heterosexual people from certain places of government and things like that to assist with the challenge.  To all those people I would like to say, on behalf of the community, thank you, thank you and thank you for all that have been done and with that there are other organizations like PETAL, Our Circle and people who continue to help in this and who are out there.”

Today’s ruling is seen as a milestone in the Caribbean and beyond where more than seventy countries still criminalize same sex intercourse. Caleb Orozco and UNIBAM are represented by attorneys Lisa Shoman and Simeon Sampson as well as by Trinidad and Tobago’s Christopher Hamel-Smith and Westmin James, Deputy Dean and constitutional law lecturer at the Faculty of Law University of the West Indies.

Caleb Orozco has always been a Dodo and a freak since his teenage years. It is very clear that the homosexual groups capitalized on this and used him to represent their claims and agenda. Non of them had the balls (really) to show their faces first on the claims.Poor Caleb. Poor on morals, and poor in money, since I’m sure that the money pie wasn’t shared with him according to his efforts. He is very close to being simple-minded. It is a sin that the faggots used him for their purpose. As for one of their attorneys, it appears she belongs to the group also. Behavior and gestures tell a lot about a person.
