Melissa Ferguson Arraigned for Conspiracy

Melissa Ferguson

At around four-thirty this evening Melissa Ferguson was formally arraigned on one single count of Conspiracy to Kidnap two persons – Pastor Llewellyn Lucas and one other. No single step in this ongoing saga has been a simple one and the Court proceeding of Ferguson was no exception. She was actually taken before the Magistrate at two in the afternoon, but the defense argued successfully that the charge sheet was in error since it did not name the persons Ferguson had allegedly conspired to kidnap. Police had to hurry back to the legal drawing board and amend the charge sheet before the matter could continue. Ferguson left the Court smiling, en route to the Belize Central Prison, while attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley maintains that there is no evidence to charge his client.

Richard “Dickie” Bradley, Attorney for Melissa Ferguson

“It’s all about optics. We can’t say from early after the most unfortunate and gruesome death of Miser Lucas that you are looking for somebody or that you wanted to speak to somebody. The person comes forward, you detain them for forty-eight hours; ten minutes afterwards, you give them a charge sheet after you’ve told them you’ll go home. It is okay, we just need to clarify some matters and so on. So instructions came down to the police to charge that lady, regardless. If you notice, she was not charged for murder she was not charged for kidnapping and who would come to say that she was conspiring, planning to kidnap because she is upstairs in her house and Pastor Lue came to her house for a few minutes; that meant somehow…you saw what was happening. They don’t have any evidence.”

“From what your client has said to you, was she involved in the abduction of Pastor Lue and the other gentleman?”

Richard “Dickie” Bradley

“Absolutely not; she is as shocked as she can be to hear that in fact they would charge her. From all the advice she got—not only from myself, but others—there is no way they could link her to the murder or no way they could link her with the kidnapping. She was forthright and told the police that I was at home and that I did see Pastor Lue come and as I said to you, they told her—their word is not good—they told her ma’am you’ll go home. We just have to tie up some loose ends.”

“You mentioned in court that she was concerned for her own well-being in the days after because of the sensational nature of this murder. In fact, her picture had been on TV for twelve days before she turned herself in. What was she afraid of during this time?”

Richard “Dickie” Bradley

“Well my understanding is that her instruction from the other attorneys was that the suddenness of what had transpired on Friday, the information that came out, she would not have anybody that she could say come and stay with me. The lawyers advised her in the circumstances of what was happening that…I mean for Belize that is probably…well I’m not sure; they had chopped up a priest in Benque one time, when I probably wasn’t born as yet. But for Belize, it is a very shocking, frightening matter that somebody would remove the head of a pastor from his body. And I imagine in the circumstances of what was happening, the lawyers advised her that it is not safe for you to stay at your home, we are coming for you; we will take you somewhere safe until we can get a clear understanding of what is transpiring so that you can clear yourself.”

Dickie Bradley is a disgrace to protect these criminals and speak of their innocence. These type of people and all associated with them should rot in prison. For the love of money this man will do anything. Dickie you no longer should be on television trying to advise the public, you are a disgrace. Just look into this man history and see what he has done! He is fraud and you call him innocent? His wife also? Do you even know if that is his wife? Perhaps his partner in crime! I will never again tune into your show! This clearly shows you dont care about this nation. this is sad DICKie

“It’s all about optics”. Why do people in Belize have the habit of using words or expressions that Dean Oliver Barrow uses. They can’t hear the man express himself with certain vocabulary without going immediately thereafter to use the same. There are many recent examples of this, mostly from media personnel. It looks bad on you guys.
