Belize City Woman in Court for False S.S.B. Claims

Mildred Vassel

Social Security took a woman to court this evening for making false claims to collect benefits during a period of eight months last year.  Mildred Vassel, an employee of Ready Call located at the Burrell Boom junction, was taken to court this afternoon on the strength of a bench warrant issued by Social Security Board for her arrest.  Vassel, who was unrepresented appeared before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza and was read thirteen counts for making wrongful claims. Allegations are that between the period of February twenty-six and November twenty-second, 2015, she made thirteen claims for sickness benefits.  Social Security is alleging that Vassel also produced or furnished false declaration claims to cash in for the benefits. Vassel allegedly obtained medical documents to back up her claims even though she was not sick.  Throughout that period she was employed by Ready Call and was collecting salary. Her case was adjourned for September fifth, 2016.  Prosecutor in the case was Inspector Lawrence Lopez of the Social Security Office.
