The Latest on Tropical Storm Earl; He’s Definitely Coming

Tropical Storm Earl has formed in the Caribbean Sea and is expected to make landfall in Belize on Wednesday night after inundating portions of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands through tonight.  Earl is the first Atlantic basin named storm since late June.  The tropical storm which is gaining strength and momentum roughly four hundred miles away from Belize, will track towards the Yucatan Peninsula where strong winds and heavy rainfall are expected to batter the country overnight on Wednesday.  The National Emergency Management Organization, NEMO, has kicked into overdrive and emergency coordinators are finalizing preparations in their respective zones.  We begin tonight with the latest weather update from the National Meteorological Service where forecaster Derek Rudon provided details on the position and strength of the storm.

On the Phone: Derek Rudon, Meteorologist, National Met Service

“At six p.m. this evening, tropical Storm Earl was centered near latitude sixteen point four degrees north; longitude eighty-two point three west or about three hundred and ninety-five miles east of Belize City. Earl has strengthened a bit and maximum sustained winds are now sixty miles per hour and it is still moving to the west at sixteen miles per hour.”

“In terms of the projection and when this particular weather system will be making landfall, can you give us an idea what we are looking at?”

On the Phone: Derek Rudon

“Okay, we are looking at landfall around midnight tomorrow or some time shortly thereafter and the projection is for it to make landfall in Belize. So central to northern Belize, the center should pass.”

Isani Cayetano

“What can we expect in terms of the amount of rainfall, the inches? And some of the areas that may be affected as a result of this weather system?”

On the Phone: Derek Rudon

“At present, the estimated rainfall are eight to twelve inches. The entire country will get rainfall—not everybody will get twelve but, but not everybody will get eight. But eight to twelve inches and the storm will affect the entire country.”

Isani Cayetano

“Is there any other information you can share with us in regard to this Tropical Storm Earl as the first weather system of this significance coming our way?”

On the Phone: Derek Rudon

“Well they are still expecting Earl to strengthen a bit so it could become a stronger storm before it reaches us or possibly even a minimum hurricane just before making landfall. So we just have to stay tune to it, be vigilant and look out for it.”

God help the peaceful people in Belize! You’re in my thoughts and prayers by God’s grace and mercy you will be safe! “Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy”. If he could just wash away all the ones causing trouble out to sea like the gangs, crooks and murderers that would be great. We need Belize to be peaceful again!
