Godwin Hulse Says Lands Department Was Once a Private Business

Dean Barrow

Retreage is expected to be savior number two at the Ministry of Natural Resources, following up on the foundation set by savior number one, Godwin Hulse. As a point of interest, former Minister of Natural Resources Gaspar Vega was seated front and center at the press conference on Monday. We can’t imagine that he was too happy to hear the disparaging comments on the Lands Ministry under his particular watch.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I used to hear the stories of all the hangers-on and the hustlers and the grifters gathered on the verandahs or in nearby precincts. My understanding is that that phenomenon has disappeared in the few short months since Godwin Hulse took over.”

Godwin Hulse, Minister of Police

“I was gung ho and pushing and pushing and pushing. I hope that Senator Minister Retreage will continue in that vein and improve upon it as the Prime Minister has said also. But as I said many times in interviews with you all, all Ministries in my mind are equal. People continue to talk about powerful and not so powerful ministries. I don’t see it like that at all. I see all ministries are equal. At least all Ministers get the same pay. All Ministers should work hard, should do their work they’re being paid for, should be on the job all the time and should try to produce the best.”

Mike Rudon

“Was Lands indeed a hotbed of corruption when you found it as the Prime Minister has said?”

Godwin Hulse

“Oh yes! Everybody knows that. That is public knowledge. Lands was a private business masquerading as a public department. Everybody knows that.”

As we told you on Monday, the man at the center of the reshuffle, Minister of Defense, John Saldivar, was not at the press conference.
