B.S.I. Responds to P.U.P. Release

On Monday, the People’s United Party chastised ASR/B.S.I. for the suggestion that the farmers will need to pick-up the bill for sixty-five percent of the losses incurred by the affected molasses. The losses, said the P.U.P., was due to the failure to follow standard procedures, but today, B.S.I. shot back strongly rejected the P.U.P.’s view.  The company says it is absorbing costs that greatly exceed the farmers’ share of lost revenue, the manufacturing cost of the molasses and the cost of handling and disposal of the affected molasses. It also states that the assertion that B.S.I. should accept full responsibility for the lost revenue is contrary to the causes of the event, and the commercial agreements in place with cane farmers. Here is the Vice President of International Relations, Mac McLachlan:

“We have today put out a press release in response to the P.U.P. media release of yesterday which we found to be a release representing some very clear and divisive misinformation for cane farmers. We found it to be factually completely inaccurate and we found it frankly to be very unhelpful at this time in our discussion with cane farmers which is an increasingly mature and sensible discussion about how we tackle industry issues. The P.U.P. did not contact us for any verification of anything that was put into that release and a number of the elements that they draw out, I can only think, are designed to create more division in the sugar industry. So we felt compelled with sadness to give a very detail factual response to that release.”
