Yadira Argueta to Compete in 2016 Costa Maya Pageant

The 2016 La Reina De La Costa Maya Pageant will be held on August fourth on La Isla Bonita San Pedro. Seven delegates from all Central American countries and Mexico will compete for the international title. The names of the representatives from competing countries have just recently been released by the Costa Maya Committee and the Queen of the Jewel organization has chosen the beauty that will grace the stage for Belize. Twenty-two year old Yadira Argueta, the 2012 national Queen of the Bay winner from Dangriga was successfully chosen from a closed casting call. Queen of the Jewel Director and Pageant Coordinator Opal Enriquez has been in Belize since the start of the week coaching and preparing Argueta for the international pageant.

“Because we have not had a Miss Belize pageant in a few years, we chose the Costa Maya delegate based on a closed casting call…so we basically reached out to several girls who have competed internationally before, have represented Belize internationally—that was a request by the Costa Maya Committee. And out of all the girls that we interviewed, we chose Miss Argueta, Miss Yadira, because she is just a vibrant little thing; she is really sweet, she is really funny, she’s very intelligent, very eloquent and she looks amazing on camera. And her experience so far has been internationally she represented Belize in the Caribbean and she also was a former Queen of the Bay—and as you know that is the oldest pageant in Belize with the longest history. So I have a lot of respect for her accomplishments—both personally and in the pageant world—and I think she is going to do a great job representing us. We’ll be doing our training right here in Belize and we’ll make sure that Yadira is in the best possible condition to represent Belize in Miss Costa Maya on August fourth.”

“So we are expecting to take that win this year?”

Opal Enriquez

“Yes, we did take it in 2013 and we placed third place last year with Samalia Vernon who did an excellent job representing us. We’ll just see what happens; these things I leave up to the Gods. So we do our best, we train hard; we make sure that she is one hundred percent prepared; that she is confident and that she looks really good on stage; that Belize looks really good on stage.”

Belize has clinched the La Reina De La Costa Maya title three times: Leilah Pandy in 2004, Maria Jeffrey in 2007 and most recently Destinee Arnold in 2013.
