William Mason, AKA Ted Ouelette, is Trooped to Court

In the latest development on the murder of Pastor Lucas, late this evening, five men, including purported criminal mastermind William Mason, were trouped to the Magistrate’s Court in Belize City but their arraignment has been postponed until Tuesday morning at nine o’clock. The magistrates had left for the day and the suspects will be in custody tonight. Attorney Herbert Panton gave an extended interview on the events that transpired on Friday night at the point when his clients were arrested.

“In court today, before my clients were arraigned, I made an application that the facts of the case as they appeared on the summary that was given to me, did not on the face of it, amount to prema facie evidence to charge them for murder, for conspiracy to commit murder, for kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. The prosecutor admitted in court that the facts did not disclose enough evidence to proffer the charges. Based on that, my submissions were upheld; the criminal procedure rules provide that where the facts do not disclose enough evidence, either the prosecutor can withdraw the matter right away or the magistrate can adjourn it and give fourteen days for them to come back and proffer the charges. The prosecutor at the time indicated that he only needed a day and the matter was adjourned for two o’clock tomorrow afternoon. They claimed that the crime happened at the ranch at mile thirty-one, which would place it in the Belize judicial district and so the matter would have been brought before some magistrate here tomorrow. The magistrate in Belmopan also ordered that my clients be released because they had already gone way past the forty-eight hours mandated by the constitution in which the police is authorized to hold them. Instead of having my clients walk out of court, the police acted in breach of a court order, placed my clients back into the police vehicle, took them to the station and put them in the lock up. After about a half hour of one senior officer giving one order and another senior officer giving another order, it was ordered that they be given their belongings and released one by one. Of course the police blocked the entrance so that they couldn’t go through the front entrance; they could only go through the back. And as soon as they were in the back of the police station, they were detained again. And now if the police want to continue to breach the rights, the fundamental rights of these people, they can do so you know because yes, my clients will be inconvenienced, but at the end of the day, even before we get to the evidence—whatever the evidence is—this matter will go down the drain because of the way they have handled this investigation from the start.”

3% murder convictions in Belize. Let’s save taxpayers money and make home buy a pardon now.

Lawlessness all over the World! No one adheres to law and order anymore. Lord save us from us.

  3. Steve says:

That is why I don’t want any of my children to become lawyers. There is no justice in law, only corruption. It all leads to defending criminals for money; beating justice by signaling procedural details that the police are unable to carry out well. Lawyers, like politicians, are unnecessary evil. In Belize, they like to combine both — double dose of evil from an individual person.
