Career Criminal Charged for Banner Murder

Ronlee Petillo

He recently was released from prison after five years on remand for a murder charge, but tonight, Ronlee Petillo is back behind bars after he was formally charged for the July ninth murder of Roger Banner. Twenty-nine year old Banner, who was released from prison six months before his killing, was sitting on the rail on West Canal talking to his girlfriend when a gunman approached and fired a barrage of bullets at him. Banner was a well-known criminal operator in the west before he went to prison a few years back. Police believe that Banner’s murder was a hit, orchestrated by a Belize City figure to who he owed money for drugs. According to Assistant Commissioner Chester Williams, investigation so far has indicated that Petillo pulled the trigger on Banner. But was Petillo also responsible for the murder of thirty-three year old Edison Williams on June seventeenth?

ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“In relation to the death of Mister Roger Banner which took place last weekend, we have arrested and charged Ronlee Petillo, a figure of George Street for that murder. He’ll be arraigned in court sometime this morning.”

Mike Rudon

“Have you all been able to get any closer…I know there was a tentative motive?”

Chester Williams

ACP Chester Williams

“The motive remains the same; that of being drug related.”

Reporter

“Sir, now Ronlee recently came off a murder, for which he was on remand for I think five years. Are you saying that he went to do a murder right after he come off of a murder?”

ACP Chester Williams

“Well that is what we are receiving and our investigation has pointed directly to him. And so resulting from our investigation, we have laid charge against him yesterday for the murder of Roger Banner.”

Mike Rudon

“Now sir you had mentioned other persons; that is was a hit. Have you all been able to come up with any other names?”

ACP Chester Williams

“Well we basically have the idea where the hit came from but due to the lack of evidence, we cannot go with what we know, but based on evidence that we have. So we have been unable to tie the other persons to the murder itself, except for Ronlee Petillo.”

Reporter

“Sir, now street sources are saying that this same person, Ronlee Petillo, was involved in a murder that happened the night that he was released—the one that happened on North Creek. Had you all been investigating him for that?”

ACP Chester Williams

“That’s the one that happened on Kraal Road, you mean.”

Reporter

“Yes…Kraal Road. Sorry.”

ACP Chester Williams

“Yes, we have also received that information, but again, due to the lack of evidence we have been able to make progress with that investigation.”
