San Pedro Resident Critical After Shooting

Dwayne Hyde

Turning to crime…A shooting just after midnight on Tuesday on La Isla Bonita San Pedro has left two persons hospitalized; one who is fighting for his life at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Around twelve-thirty a.m., thirty-year old Dwayne Hyde was shot to the abdomen by one of three men who followed him to his house in the Escalante Division of the D.F.C. area on the island.  According to his twenty-two-year-old common-law wife, Kimberly Humes, she heard a knock at the front door and when she opened it, Hyde told her that his life was under threat. The mechanic was pursued by two men, who reportedly entered the yard, and after a brief encounter with him, a struggle ensued and Hyde was shot to the abdomen.  But during the scuffle, one of his attackers, known to him as ‘Wizz,’ was stabbed to the neck, mouth and abdomen. That person has since been identified as twenty-three-year-old Luis Carter of San Pablo, who had to be rushed to the San Pedro Polyclinic for treatment and remains under police guard. Hyde was critically wounded and transferred to the K.H.M.H. where he underwent surgery.  Press Officer Inspector Fitzroy Yearwood told us more.

Insp. Fitzroy Yearwood, Press Officer, Eastern Division North

“Sometime around 12:30 a.m., Mister Dwayne Hyde who ran home and he had to bang on his door because he was in hot pursuit by some persons that wanted to harm him. By the time his common-law wife opened that door to their residence, he was shot somewhere in the abdomen and he was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he is undergoing treatment as we speak. How the stabbing came about, we believe that one of his assailants was stabbed with a screwdriver. We cannot determine as yet who inflicted that wound to one of the assailants, but we know that one of the persons out of the three attackers was known to the victim and the common-law.”

“Is this person or can you tell us if this person, Mister Hyde or any of the persons who allegedly attacked him are known to the police?”

Insp. Fitzroy Yearwood

“Well like I said, I just recently received this information so I cannot really comment whether or not they are known to the police. But I know that Mister Hyde is fighting for his life.”

“In the police report, it mentioned that there was a conversation before there was a scuffle or the fight. Tell us what happened there.”

Insp. Fitzroy Yearwood

“Like I said, he ran home. I don’t know where he was; he was probably out socializing. But he was in immediate pursuit because by the time that door was open for him to go inside, it was too late. Obviously he had a misunderstanding with these three young men; one of them, like I said, known to him. And as a result they ended up in a little scuffle and he was shot in the abdomen.”
