Southside Cops Visit Residents in CET Site

Community policing initiatives were also ongoing in the south side of Belize City. Today, a team of officers from Eastern Division South visited the CET Site, a neighborhood within the Saint Martin’s area which remains somewhat of a hotspot for gang-related crimes.  The vicinity of La Croix Boulevard has been the scene of several shooting incidents, including a double murder two weeks ago.  The officers, of various ranks, were there as part of the weekly meet and greet initiative and spoke with residents about their concerns.  Since the recent murders of Kent Brooks Junior and Kieron Morrison, a checkpoint has been reactivated on La Croix Boulevard in an effort to stem the crime situation.

Sr. Supt. Alden Dawson, Deputy O.C., Eastern Division South

“All our meet and greet are important and today was just another day selected, randomly selected.  We know we had the incident but we randomly select areas, and then we just go in the different areas and as I always say, every Wednesday we do it in different areas.  This week we decided to do it in different areas and not necessarily because of the shooting but the area was selected prior to this incident.  We have a calendar that we do and then we try to rotate it between Precinct One area and Precinct Two.  So this is the reason why we are in this area today.”

“Capitalizing on this opportunity, can you tell us what the residents of La Croix Boulevard are sharing with you all in the wake of these murders?”

Sr. Supt. Alden Dawson

“We continue to get positive feedback from all the residents of the different areas and more so this area because we have since put up a tent.  If you notice we have a tent over that side where we have two police posted permanently in the area to try and curb the crime situation in this area.”
