Applications Invited for NSC Summer Camp

Softball, volleyball, football and basketball are the four disciplines that will be featured in the National Sports Council’s 2016 Summer Sports Camp. The annual activity will commence on Monday, July eighteenth from nine a.m. to twelve noon and will run for two weeks at the Roger’s Stadium in Belize City. National Sports Coordinator, Charlie Slusher, took the opportunity today to invite children between the ages of eight and fifteen to join the camp.

Charlie Slusher, National Sports Coordinator

“Traditionally the national sports council has always had a summer camp, every year we do this. I know we were caught up with the CODICADER games and people probably thought we wouldn’t have had a camp. But we are going full steam ahead and we’re starting our camp this Monday, the eighteenth and we will finish the twenty-ninth which is two weeks.”

“Now who does it cater to and why do you guys do this on an annual basis?”

Charlie Slusher

Charlie Slusher

“Well it is catered for U-fifteen athletes; basically it can be student athletes or the other young kids that are around. I know they should be in school, but it doesn’t matter who you are; as long as you fit that age group, you can be a part of the camp.”

Duane Moody

“How can people register because I know that you said that it is mainly for your student athletes?”

Charlie Slusher

“Well like I said, we are not turning away anyone. Anyone who want to be part of the camp can register here at the National Sports Council or can register on the day of the event as long as they show up here Monday at nine, they will be able to register and be a part of the camp.”

Duane Moody

“The different disciplines that it will address?”

Charlie Slusher

“There will be four main disciplines: basketball, volleyball, softball and football.”

“And basically they are learning skills, the techniques to play the sport and life skills as well?”

Charlie Slusher

“Well as much as we know that we have to make all of these activities fun. It is the summer and these kids also want to have fun, but we still need to do some fundamentals so they will be learning some skills about each of the game. But we can assure each of these participants that they will enjoy having fun; they will enjoy learning the game as well as playing the game so they will definitely enjoy themselves.”

Registration forms are available at the National Sports Council Office at the Rogers Stadium in Belize City.
