Larry Romany Says Programming will Positively Impact the Region

Larry Romany

The overall impact of the programming, says Romany, will be felt across the region since its aim is to bring unity among athletes, fans and viewers at home.

Larry Romany, C.E.O., CANOC Broadcasting Inc.

“We see, I mean, a huge impact primarily because the Caribbean region to see their athletes in action.  They will get information and statistics about their athletes, about their performances, past performances and present performances.  We get an opportunity to project on how the Caribbean will do, so whereas you only see one medal table, we’ll have two: we will have the big medal table and then we’ll have the Caribbean medal table.  We will have an opportunity to see the best Caribbean moments of the day, as well as the best Olympic moments of the day.  We have created niches around the broadcast that we will be producing.”

Isani Cayetano

“Now in terms of the promotion of some sort of unity among the member states within the Caribbean, in terms of this particular initiative, does this bode well for bringing together, let’s say the Belizean athlete, the Jamaicans, the Trinidadians etc.”

Larry Romany

“Oh definitely. I think in the past, we already had that through the Association of Olympic Committees. The way athletes are distributed in an Olympic village, it makes it sometimes a little difficult, especially the one in Rio because they are in these tall skyscrapers and so forth so you are not sure if Belize is going to be in the same tower as Trinidad or Jamaica. They may be with Yugoslavia or Australia. But one thing we know is that when they come together and eat in the dining hall, they all get together. And because we will be having direct interviews with the athletes, they all get the opportunity to participate together and the hope is that it gels everyone together.”

Coverage of the 2016 Olympics commences on August fifth and concludes on the twenty-first.  As we mentioned, the games will be shown right here on Channel Five.
