Was Tevin Palmer Killed By Persons Known to Him?

Tevin Palmer

This morning, Eastern Division North of the Belize Police Department called a press briefing to apprise the media on the investigation into the murder of twenty-year-old Tevin Palmer, who was the first to be executed on Wednesday afternoon. Palmer was murdered as he socialized inside a home on Castle Street that he frequented and sources say he was in a relationship with one of the women that lived in the house. Unexpectedly, to Palmer at least, one of the men inside the house would take out a gun and end his life, shooting him five times to the head. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

At around three o’clock on Wednesday afternoon, approximately six shots rang out from inside a house on Castle Street – another Belize City youth had been callously murdered. Twenty-year-old Tevin Palmer was at the home of Heather Foreman socializing with a group of persons, including Foreman when one of the men inside the house pulled out a nine millimeter gun and fired several shots at Palmer, who was seated on a sofa. Five bullets would find their mark on Palmer’s head, killing him on the spot.

Supt. Hilberto Romero, O.C., CIB

“CIB personnel visited number 50B Castle Street where they found the lifeless body of Tevin Palmer, twenty-years; he had multiple gunshot wounds to the head. He was found sitting on a sofa inside a house. Investigation revealed that he was there along with family members and other persons and at some point someone pulled out a firearm and he was shot to the head. He was there with persons that he knew. They were all at the house and at some point one of the persons pulled out a firearm and shot at the deceased; that’s the information that we have at this time.”

“One of the persons inside the house at the time?”

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“That is correct; they were all there associating with each other.”

A clear motive has not been established for Palmer’s murder, but Eastern Division North police say that they are looking for three persons, who witnesses say left the residence on bicycles following the shooting. But, Palmer was socializing with his killer…so was he blindsided?

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“We recovered five expended shells at the scene; the person had multiple shots to the head. We have not established a clear motive; we are working on the case, recording statements and we are seeking three persons in regards to this murder.”

“I believe that if we have more witnesses coming forward. I mean this is broad daylight; people have to know what took place, even the occupants of that home have to know what took place. And if they come forward then it makes it easier for us to pursue justice for that family, that bereaved family regardless.”

On Wednesday, ACP Chester Williams told the media that there is a direct connection between the murder of Palmer and another shooting incident that took place minutes later on Cemetery Road, during which nineteen-year-old Devin Parham was killed. While Eastern Division North police would not go as far as to confirm the link, they say that the investigation is also looking at that angle, including the notion that Palmer’s murder may have been gang-related.

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“We are following several leads, doing several interviews and yes the information is that the shooting may be gang related.”

“ACP Williams had previously mentioned a direct link between the murder of Giovanni Gentle. Is that the same information that you guys have?”

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“Like I mentioned earlier, yes we are following every lead that we have and that is the information that we are trying to verify at this time.”

Linden Flowers

Sr. Supt. Linden Flowers, Acting Regional Commander, Eastern Division North

“Working with the community policing units and the community to stem these kinds of incidents. So I want to say that we will continue working in that format that strategy and we are asking persons who have information for us on this recent murder to give the information in the usual channel of information. It will be investigated and I want to put a call out there for more information to come and that the citizens of the north side can assure that the police department of Eastern Division North is prepared and willing to work and go the extra mile to stem these kinds of incidents.”
