Keyren Tzib to Stand Trial for Attempted Murder of Coastguard Officer

Keyren Tzib

Coastguard officer, Keyren Tzib has been back and forth at court for two cases; the manslaughter of her boyfriend for which she is out on bail. The other case against her is for the attempted murder of another officer. Today, she learnt that she will have to stand trial at the Supreme Court for the attempted murder of Kurt Hyde who was shot on April sixth, 2015 at the end of a joint maritime operation of the Belize armed forces.  Hyde was shot in the face at close range with Tzib’s M-four assault rifle.   According to the police investigation, Tzib never uttered a word to Hyde before she shot him. Today at the end of a Preliminary Inquiry, Tzib’s attorney, Mayor Darrell Bradley chose not to challenge any of the prosecution’s evidence. Prosecutor Egbert Castillo submitted as many as twenty-six statements, including one from Hyde and from many B.D.F. and police officers.  With all those documents and statements tendered into evidence before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith, Tzib learnt that a prima facie case has been established against her and that she will be tried in the October session of the Supreme Court for attempted murder and use of deadly means of harm on Hyde.  Two months ago, on April sixth, 2016, the Chief Magistrate also committed her to stand trial at the Supreme Court for the indictable offense of manslaughter in the stabbing death of her boyfriend, Thythis Blancaneaux. He was fatally stabbed in July of 2015 in Lord’s Bank area, Ladyville after a domestic dispute between the two.  The incident was witnessed by friends and after a PI, the court decided she must stand trial for manslaughter.
