Soca Versus Dancehall, What’s Your Pick?

Soca versus Dancehall…it’s a one of its kind concert that the promoters from Kings Promotion have put together for Belizeans this Saturday at the Hour Bar Field in Belize City. Bacchanalist Kerwin Dubois and Dancehall/Reggae artist Aidonia will take the stage to give partygoers a taste of both worlds. Today, the artists touched down in Belize for the highly anticipated show. News Five spoke with Aidonia and Promoter Manuel Cuellar about what you can expect at the concert.

Manuel Cuellar, Kings Promotion

“Kings Promotion has been known to be a more reggae type of field in terms of concerts. We realized that in the past soca has been an uprising so we decided to do a combination. We already familiar with the dancehall/reggae part so we just tried something new and it is the summer time so we came with the soca versus dancehall and we grabbed our personal artists that we think would have attracted everyone and so we came up with this concept.”

Aidonia, Dancehall/Reggae Artist

“It’s a great vibe, you know. The last time I was here it was crazy—crazy vibe, crazy energy—I loved the love that I got from the people. So it is my pleasure again to be here to perform for the people again. It just a mad vibe and you know say we just come to take it up a next level, a next notch and just entertain the people as usual. From the last time I was here I got a couple more hits like Boring Gial and stuff like that. I am just trying to be consistent and you know I just love entertaining the ladies cause wherever the ladies go the man them ah come follow. So we just keep the ladies entertained and stuff. So being around the Caribbean, been to Europe and so we just there to mad it up. Yo know say the expectation is high so we have to just come do better than the last time I was here. So it is just a mad vibe.”

Manuel Cuellar

“Overall, we are expecting a good show. We have two artists with great, great energy…so it is not a more laidback; it’s a jump-up kinda thing. So it’s going to be a really, really good outcome.”

Duane Moody

“Now I understand that some international DJs are also here for the event. Talk to us about that.”

Manuel Cuellar

“Yeah, we also have Platinum Kids from New York. We threw them in there…a big, big sound in New York. Last night in Belmopan they just threw it down; it was a really good experience for Belize. So tomorrow you should expect something different as opposed to the other events we’ve done in the past.”

Tickets are available for thirty dollars at Cellular World outlets across the country and at Pink Boutique on North Front Street. VIP tickets are a hundred dollars while platinum tickets are going for two hundred and fifty dollars.
