Is Post of New Regional Health Manager in the North a Political Appointment?

Audibaldo Monima Jr.

There is a new regional health manager for the two northern districts. Thirty-year old Audibaldo Monima Junior, an officer with the Belize National Coast Guard has been given a contract for the top post, approved by the Minister of Health Pablo Marin. But from what we gather, senior officials in the ministry did not know that Monima had been approved for the job. But even more surprising is that the former coastguard officer has no training or experience in health as is required. As far as we know, he holds an associate’s degree in business administration from the Corozal Junior College and a certificate from the Mexican navy, but the post calls for a master’s degree in public health and a minimum work experience of five years in public health administration, finance and human resource management. We could not confirm, but the package includes the hiring of his Mexican wife, Maria Monima, as primary care coordinator for the northern region. And one more thing, the job of regional health manager was previously held by the deputy regional health manager, Guadalupe Longsworth, who is eminently qualified in the hospitality industry. Longsworth we understand is about to retire

Monima must have gotten at least First Aid training from Coast Guard so that is probably the health experience that got him the job. Right? He da fu who pickni? Gloria was indeed qualified! Don’t you see the big HOSPITAL in HOSPITALality?

  2. Tataduende says:

Really?? That clown for regional health manager? No wonder our health system is so messed up! The best it yet to come!

  3. steven says:

Hmmm….is this some of “The Best is Yet to Come!!” ????

  4. Not Surprised says:

I am sure that he is eminently qualified and has years of experience in the health sector. Look out for the press release from the MoH justifying this “hiring.”

  5. pueblo unido says:

The last Hurrah…wait for more of these UDP FIRSTS appointments.

Pablo, no amount of “brown-nosing” by the Monima’s should have let this gone so low to give an unqualified individual a very important position as a health manager. I’m sure we have qualified norteños that could have replaced Quadalupe. People that can move up in rank right within the same medical department. We need improvement in the health care in the north. Do you really think a “brown-nose” is worth the risk?

  7. Dave says:

Amazing, and this is why the country is in such disorder. Having unqualified people in positions such as these is what is driving the country downward. A clear example are the leaders and the corrupted system in place for the benefit of themselves and not the country and the people.

Good work Belize, keep it up!

  8. Mrs. P says:

Another of Pablo’s “I am the boss” moments. One vote is more important than playing with the health and lives of people. Well, after all he is an electrician himself so he sees the need to hire the like to get these kinds of positions….what I find appalling is that NO ONE from the Ministry of Health is willing to stand up and do something. Get together people!! There is power in unity.

  9. Al says:

Why all the skepticism? The same thing was happening the last five years, and yet we voted in the same party. What? You thought there was going to be changes? It shows that the majority of us Belizeans approved of all the corruptions and favoritisms and unfairness that was taking place. So why the crying now that its still going on?

  10. belizetomibone says:

It is the sad reality of many Government offices. Directors, CEO and Ministers reward brown nose supporters who bad mouths others in office, gossip about everyone and does the least work with the high possitions that they have ultimate say in who gets hired. They even put on a show of unbiase interview by a panel of people who know nothing of the requirements for such a post. Next thing you know you are being managed and supervised by people who have no knowledge of how you get the work done. While they and their minions enjoy the highest pay scale hard working people stay at the bottom to the work demanded by minions!

Pablo, what about Claudet Grinage who has a master’s degree in Hospital Administration? Not Hospitality management like Lupe but a relevant degree and real healthcare experience. But wait. That’s not the UDP way, no? Unu hire only UDP first
