Insurance Powerhouse Guardian Group Returns to Belize After Brief Hiatus

NemWil, Regent and Guardian Life Insurance….they are well-known insurance companies that have operated in Belize as agents for the Guardian Holdings Group out of the Caribbean. Now under the new brand, Guardian Group, the Trinidadian Company is making its return to the Jewel, after a six month hiatus. Providing general insurance services, the multibillion-dollar company plans to cement its footprint in Belize through partnership with Simpson’s Insurance Agency Limited. News Five’s Duane Moody was at the launch held at the Biltmore Plaza this morning and has this report.

Today, Guardian Group formerly launched its new brand and partnership with Simpson’s Insurance Agency Limited. On a return of its investment in Belize, the regional company is strengthening its capacity in providing the best quality general insurance products and services to consumers. As it currently stands, Guardian Group is the largest financial services company, operating in twenty-one territories in the English and Dutch Caribbean. Guardian’s Vice President of Integrated Marketing Communications, Larry Olton, says that the company has been in existence for over one hundred and sixty-seven years and there is a renewed focus on One Group One Vision.

“Guardian Group is the brand under which the Guardian Holdings Limited, Group of Companies—Guardian Holdings Limited is the parent company and is the brand under which we represent ourselves in the market. We are a group of financial services companies representing the largest portfolio of life health and pensions, general insurance and asset management across the Caribbean region. We have representation; primarily in the case of the Trinidad and Tobago market, Barbados and Jamaica where we have hundred percent owned subsidiaries, in the rest of the region, our approach and strategy has been partnering with agencies across the region to represent the business in those areas and provide our products and services.”

Guardian General Insurance Limited started trading in Belize back in January of 1987 and remained operational for twenty-eight years, until December 2015 under N.E.M. West Indies Insurance Limited (NEMWIL). Over the past six months, Guardian has merged a new partnership with Abel Simpson, an insurance agent who over the years has developed his business which is headquartered in Belmopan.

“I am comfortable with the decision to be the torch bearer for Guardian Group in Belize. I bring twenty-three years of experience in the industry and I am quite certain that the Simpson Insurance Agency team is up to the challenge. The healthy relationships that we have forged with our clients and costumers over the years have indeed bore good fruits as we have been assured of their continued loyalty and confidence in this new venture.”

“Our financial strength is consistently applied, our underwriting discipline, our competitive advantages. We consistently deliver high profit margins; we successfully manage the underwriting cycles and if I may say at this point in time when I speak of underwriting cycles, the market is very competitive. Rates are very low at this time and we have to manage the ups and downs of the underwriting cycles. Our claims services quite reputable; we offer efficient and quick claim settlement. We have a good geographic spread; we have a robust reinsurance program which has been tested by several hurricanes throughout the region.”

With S.I.A.L. as the newest member of the Guardian Group family, how does the reintroduction of insurance services into the industry benefit consumers?

Abel Simpson

“We are certain that three factors are key to our growth: one, an excellent product; two, reasonably priced and three, backed by a high level of service. We have been assured time and again by Guardian General of their unwavering support in this regard and I have full confidence that this is so. We have introduced new and innovative products to the market. Our customers will see a reduction in the cost of goods and will be backed by a serious commitment to delivering a high level of service to garner customer satisfaction.”

Larry Olton

“We are in the process now of integrating our systems with S.I.A.L.  Over the course of the next few months, we will be fully integrated with S.I.A.L.; this would mean that the underwriting process is going to be more efficient, is going to be faster. We also have, as I mentioned, the opportunity to provide some unique features within our products and services in the market.”

The new Guardian Group logo, which encompasses the different lines of products and services offered across the Caribbean, was also unveiled at today’s press conference. Duane Moody for News Five.
