Prensa Libre Claims Intimidation at the Adjacency Zone

Prensa Libre T.V. has been airing an amateur video in which it claims that Belizean police and border management personnel are intimidating Guatemalans from Melchor de Mencos along the Adjacency Zone on the western border. The incident is said to have happened recently when the Belizean officials approached the Guatemalans who were in that area to offer services to tourists.  The allegation is that the Guatemalans were told not to come into Belize.  The images show that the incident occurred near the Border Management Agency on this side of the border.  We viewed the video and could not find the purported intimidation; anything close to the incidents of aggression on Belizeans by the Guatemalan military in the Sarstoon. For reference here is the video.

From what was discussed, the police and border management official were concerned that the men had ripped the police tape placed in that area.

Hahaha…. That Prensa Libre only looks foolish. It is the guatemalan taxi drivers who are aggressive, disrespectful and insulting. They don’t respect the border. Belizean authorities should have video recorders all around, and then we would have all the evidence of what I and many have been wtnessing all along. Oliver Barrow and the UDP, invest tax payers dollars in more video surveillance, and stop squandering the people’s money.

Having looked at the video, all I see is a few Guatemalans who are on the Belize Side taunting our Police Officers who are only there to do their job. Now how does Prensa Libre get such video, do you think a Prensa Libre reporter just happen to be there?? How about if we go and taunt the Belize Police Force…one of you records the event and then we sell it to prensa libre??? You choose which one to believe. The Police Department should already have protocols to deal with issues like this cause the Guatemalans have their cells phones ready to record and try to embarrass us….
