Boyd Lopez, Guilty of Death by Careless Conduct

Boyd Lopez

Twenty-year old Boyd Lopez was initially charged and indicted for manslaughter in the traffic fatality that took the life of seventy year old Marie Knowles on Baghdad Street on February eighteenth. Lopez did not possess a driver’s license when he hit the elderly woman. When his case came up in the Supreme Court before Judge Adolph Lucas, Lopez asked the judge to render justice with mercy in imposing a penalty after he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of causing death by careless conduct. For the first time since the unfortunate traffic fatality, Lopez took responsibility for his actions.  Immediately a mitigation plea was heard on his behalf of Lopez and several character witnesses were called to the stand including his mother. Lopez, a first time offender, also took the stand expressing remorse asking the court to impose a fine. He goes back to court for sentencing on May twentieth when the prosecution is also to provide to the court previous cases to assist the judge in making a determination.

I understand your remorse now but you should have thought about that before. Word on the street was that you shouldn’t have even been driving that vehicle and you were intoxicated. Think about the life you took and the family you affected.
