Crime Spikes in Cayo District

Richard Rosado

Molina is the fifth murder victim in less than two weeks in the San Ignacio jurisdiction. There was a drug-related double murder involving Guatemalan nationals Santos Ramon Gomez and Orlando Antonio Garcia Calletal, a domestic violence double murder in which Miriam Mai and her sister-in-law Daisy Miralda were killed over the Labor Day weekend. Police say they are taking measures to quell crime.

Supt. Richard Rosado, O.C., San Ignacio Police

“San Ignacio Police jurisdiction actually covers twenty-two surrounding villages and the twin towns and yes there has been a slight increase in the murder. But what we are doing is taking the necessary measures in place and we now have a rural rapid response team. We are now in the process of opening a precinct at the Santa Familia Police Station which will specifically deal with the rural area. That should come on board in the next couple of weeks; the renovations have started, police have been identified along with a few volunteer special constables who will man that station for us.”
