What’s the Next Step for B.N.T.U. if G.O.B. Refuses to Rescind Statutory Instrument?

Luke Palacio

So, with all the talk of parading through the streets of Belize City on Friday, what else is on the union’s itinerary for Teachers Day?  Palacio told the media this afternoon that a number of dynamic speakers have been tapped to deliver addresses.  As a follow up to a proposal made by Ambassador Assad Shoman at the launch of the Stand Up for Belize Campaign, Palacio says that the union is yet to convene a special conference to discuss the resolutions.

Luke Palacio, National President, B.N.T.U.

“Well basically we will be having, we intend to have a parade through the streets of Belize City and then we will be having addresses.  We will have to collaborate or get permission, if you will, from the authorities, particularly the City Council, the Traffic Department if we are to use any public space.  But failing that we have our private property here at B.N.T.U. and we would do it here if it comes to the test.”

“Are you all any closer to deciding if the resolutions that Mr. Assad Shoman had recommended, have those been discussed any further since the last Stand Up for Belize event?”

Luke Palacio

“No, they have not been discussed.  We are aware of what they are and again like I had mentioned in Benque, that will take for us to have a special conference because the B.N.T.U. constitution mandates a convention once a year, but should there be matters that the council feels or membership feels that there should be a need for a special council which has similar powers to a convention then a special conference, sorry, would be held.  But we have not yet moved any further on that.”
