Game 2 of the NEBL Championship series saw Smart Belize Hurricanes confidently sail to scenic San Pedro Saturday night to close out the 3 game series against the two time defending champion San Pedro Tigersharks after that impressive 93 – 84 win last Friday in Game 1. Douglas Valley led San Pedro to a quick 8 – zip run – he sneaks in for this rebound to bank it home and then lands this triple from the left side and would finish with 20 points, 5 rebounds. Farron Lauriano gets fed by little brother Leroy. Farron would work 3 the hard way to narrow the score. At the end of the first piece opening quarter the defending champs lead 34 tp 28. Folks in Game 2 Ashton Edwards finally broke out with a mighty bang as he moved Darwin Leslie out of the way to score this 3 pointer. Caleb Sutton then beats everybody baseline to hammer home 2 of his 8 game points. However Farron Lauriano kept the Hurricanes churning as he grabs this board to execute the put back. Farron would sink 30 points, pulled 6 rebounds and receive the highest efficiency rating of 42. Never the less at the half the Tigersharks show a 53 to 48 lead. In the 3rd quarter Edwards remain hot so he hits the triple, would go 5 for 11 from beyond the arc and would tie for the game high with Farron Lauriano after petting up 30 points. Down by 8 Darwin Leslie gets busy so he streaks in for 2 of his 15 game points. Andrew Ortiz of the Tigersharks also had a good night and here he goes to the finger roll for 2 of his 18 points and would lead all players with 8 rebounds. Jacob Leslie replies with this triple and puts up 9 points for the Hurricanes. At the end of 3 the home team boasts a 6 point lead. In the final quarter it’s all San Pedro as Ashton Edwards pulls back and gets the bounce to loud the triple. Jamal Kelly then sets the table or Andrew Ortiz to rise up to a thunderous two hand dunk. Darwin Leslie keeps the Hurricane in the hunt beating all 5 defenders to the rim. In the meantime when you’re hot, you’re hot; Ashton Edwards misses the jumper but is fortunate to come up with the rebound and the deuce is automatic. Mr. Andrew Ortiz strikes again and Douglas Valley pouts the nail in the coffin with emphasis as San Pedro Tigersharks post the 101 – 88 big W to knot the series at 1 apiece. The decisive game 3 is set for 9 PM Friday, May 13 inside the BES Gym, home of the Hurricanes. Two teams enter one leaves with the 2016 title. Can San Pedro make it 3 wins in a row or will the Hurricanes pick up the title in its first try? Stay tuned!

Turning to the football scene, we caught up with the Belize District ballgame staged at the MCC Grounds yesterday as Lake I Strikers took on Star Academy. Thirty-six minutes in Oscar Usher of Lake I Strikers hands the ball inside the box and concedes a penalty. Steven Baizar steps up and easily seek goalkeeper Giovanni Moody for the 1 –zip stars academy lead. In the 2nd half Whitfield Fisher beats the Stars Academy keeper to this ball centered into the goalmouth to force the 1 – 1 regulation time. Hey guys a number on your jersey is for proper identification. In the other match up PC Elite double Eiley FC 2 – 1. Now let’s check in on the Smart Under-13 Mundialito session Saturday at the MCC Grounds as Ladyville Jaguars took on Face of Belize. Ladyville Jaguar gets the first god look at goal when D’Jon Canelo dances his way through traffic but fails to finish the play. In 2nd half action Kaseem Santos is at the right place to give face of Belize the opener only to be denied by goalkeeper Elroy Arnold. Its late in the ballgame when D’Jon Canelo finally competes the play when he beats one defender and then forces with the left foot to give Ladyville jaguars the 1 – zip win.  The other game saw Brown Bomber when Eldon Byrd force at goal, the ball is misplayed by a Reality Youth defender who concedes the dreaded auto save. Goal #2 come when Eldon Byrd drops the ball into the box; Kadeem Bowen gets there with a header and steers it into the empty net. At the other end Curtis August could put Reality Youth on the scoreboard but this shot is right at the keeper. Jaylen Byrd then mounts this individual effort and beats everyone including the goalkeeper to give Brown Bombers the 3 – nil victory In other results from Saturday, City Boys blanked Heights FC 2 – zip, Young Warriors torched Collet Striker 1 – zip and Carlston FC beat Ladyville Rising Stars by that same score. looking ahead to May 14 Hattieville Riverside Boys takes on Reality Youths, Brown Bombers aim at Heights, Ladyville Jaguars battle Young Warriors, Ladyville Rising Starts go up against Face of Belize and Carlston FC matches up with City Boys.
