Ladyville Resident Ambushed and Executed

The second murder took place on Tuesday night in the Ladyville area where gunshot blasts were heard as early as nine o’clock in the night. A resident of the Japan area was showered by bullets as he was preparing to take a bath. Thirty-one year old Lloyd Gerald Robateau was ambushed and died near the steps of his small wooden house. A group of friends were on their way to visit with him, but by the time they got to Robateau’s house, he had expired. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

Who, in the dead of the night on Tuesday, shot and killed thirty-one year old Lloyd Gerald Robateau and why? That is what officers attached to the Rural Eastern Division are investigating following a deadly shooting around nine p.m. in the Japan Area of Ladyville in which as many as seventeen shots were fired. Robateau, a laborer who was also known as Banks, was at his home off Jackson Avenue when at least one gunman approached him in the dark and opened fire.

ACP Edward Broaster, Regional Commander, Rural Eastern Division

“Around nine o’clock p.m. we received information of a shooting, shots fired in the Japan area. Initial investigation revealed that one Lloyd Gerald Robateau, thirty-one years laborer of Japan area received multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and lower body. When we processed the scene, we recovered seventeen expended shells and three live rounds. Mister Robateau was taken to the K.H.M.H. where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His death is being investigated as a murder at this time and we are looking for some individuals who we believe would be on interest in this investigation to us.”

On the ground near the steps to his house is where Robateau’s mortally wounded body was found, face up and shirtless. He was on his way to the outdoor shower after he invited some friends over. But he was violently assaulted; shot to the neck, chest, stomach, arms and legs minutes before his friends got there. A neighbor who lived close by says she heard the blasts from inside her house.

Voice of: Neighbor

“I mi deh ina my house when I heard the gunshots them…about eight nine cause it gone fast.”

Duane Moody

“Around what time did this happen?”

Voice of: Neighbor

“About nine.”

Duane Moody

“Did you come out to see or anything?”

Voice of: Neighbor

“No, I noh come out; I stay in. He mi text some friends fi make dehn come heng with ahn. So the friends dehn come fi come heng with ahn, but when dehn meet ahn, he mi done dead. Then the bwai dehn come tell mi neighbor that Banks get shot and so he come and tell us that Banks get shot so we come out.”

ACP Edward Broaster

“He was at his residence.”

Duane Moody

“So is the investigation showing how many gunmen were on the scene, one gunman? What happened?”

ACP Edward Broaster

“I will no comment on that as well. The area where Mister Robateau lived is an isolated area. While he has a couple neighbors in the area, the area is really isolated in terms of road access and so forth.”

Reporter

“So they entered his residence and fired several shots?”

ACP Edward Broaster

“No, they did not enter his residence. Apparently it appears that Mister Robateau was exiting his premises to go take a shower and he was shot.”

Robateau is not known to be involved in any gang and has not had any run-ins with the law. So his murder is a mystery.

ACP Edward Broaster

“The initial investigation that we have conducted indicated that Mister Robateau had a conflict with some individuals about a month or two ago and we believe that this incident may have been an incident which led to his death.”

Reporter

“Can you speak to the nature of that confrontation, that conflict between the deceased and the alleged person of interest?”

ACP Edward Broaster

“At this time, I wouldn’t want to comment on the motive or the status of that cause we are yet to confirm that that is the case and we wouldn’t want to speculate or to say that that is the case and it is not, until we confirm it.”
