Police Investigate Fetus Buried on Jane Usher Blvd.

An expecting mother whose pregnancy was terminated under dubious circumstances remains at the center of a police investigation tonight.  Police were notified late Tuesday that a fetus had been discarded in a shallow grave on Jane Usher Boulevard in the south side of the city.  They have since been posted at the location where preparations were made this morning to unearth the remains.  It is uncertain whether the pregnant teen suffered a miscarriage or she purposely aborted her unborn.  According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, while details are scant, they have ascertained that the fetus was four months along.

ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“I have not obtained sufficient information about the fetus but from what I have been briefed by the investigators is that sometime last night they had received information of a female who might have had a miscarriage of a four-month fetus.  She apparently had disposed of the fetus in a shallow grave somewhere in the Jane Usher Boulevard area.  So what the police did this morning was to basically go into the area of Jane Usher to see if they can find and exhume the fetus and thereafter will be looking at the possibility of probably concealment of the birth of a child or as the case may be.  So we are looking at that.  We do not know if it was the medical termination of a pregnancy or it is one that was deliberately one.  If it was one that was deliberately done then, again it’s a crime.  So we’ll look at it and when we have obtained all the necessary information that we need then we’ll see how we’ll progress with that information.”

“How was the police led to that information?”

ACP Chester Williams

“I guess from the mother.”

This is the second discovery of a fetus since the beginning of the year to that was discarded by a teenage mother.  The first was in Dangriga at the end of February, when residents of Benguche happened upon a stillborn being carried away by dogs in the area.
