Government Enacts ‘Wil’s Law’ to Prohibit Local Travel to Sarstoon

If at first you don’t succeed, send in the big guns. And if they don’t succeed, just change the law. And they have. Via release issued today, the government informs that a new law passed under Section Two of the Public Safety Act will, “prohibit persons and vessels, without lawful authority, from entering into Belize’s portion of the Sarstoon River, unquote. The new law takes effect today, and will remain in force for a month. The release continues, to state that, quote, Government advises that this course of action has become necessary in order to prevent any “commotion” or “threat to public safety” that might arise in consequence of the continuing tense and dangerous standoff between Belize and Guatemala over the Sarstoon.” Of course, the use of the word standoff is interesting, since it suggests a situation in which both parties are holding their ground with neither giving way. As we’ve seen in the Sarstoon, that is most certainly not the situation. Guatemalan military and civilians continue to make full use of the entire river, without impediment. Belizeans can’t. So there’s really no standoff. And it could certainly be argued that the new law actually legalizes the Guatemalan occupation of the river by prohibiting Belizeans from entering.

Wake up people! GOB is taking your rights away. They have rolled over to the Guats and basically given in and relinquished the Sarstoon. The border problem will never to solved because it is not in Guatemala’s interest to do so. They will never enforce any treaty that whoever might sign so the situation will never change. Now we have backed down and the Sarstoon will forever be under the control of Guatemala. Sad but true.

Belize needs to have UN forces at Sarstoon, with Guatemala occupying and Belizean can’t enter their own land is beyond ridiculous, even if for safety reasons. What makes you think it will be solved in a month? Forget the OAS, they have always been on the Latinos side, Belize is considered Caribbean and Black.

  3. Down South says:

The more average citizens, either side, gets killed, the more the odds of a full military war.

The Guatemalan government should be doing the same in the Chiquibul.

The way I see it. Consider if Wil and his followers were allowed to go to the Sarstoon and the Guats arrest and/or shoot them.. The BDF intervenes and hell breaks loose. Then what? Isn’t it better at this time to avoid this scenario until we move our bishops and knights in place. We need to get our allies, Great Britain, the Caribbean members and all major political players before we make a move. Cuba has already signaled that they will intervene like they did in Africa, They still have a bone to pick with Guatemala for allowing the bay of Pigs assailants to train in Guatemala. Please people, let the professionals handle this situation. There are many things happening in the background that the ordinary joe blow citizen does not understand.

And the Belize press need to fight back on foreign minister Morales cry that a ppor boy was shot by the BDF. The Guats murdered a million indigenous indians from 1980 to 2000 and now they are crying about one boy shot in Belize territory while returning fire.
