ACP Chester Williams Says Some Shootings Were Grief-Related

Before leaving Belize today to attend a training course in the U.S., Regional Commander of Eastern Division South, Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, told News Five there were up to seven shootings over the course of Saturday night and in the aftermath of Gerald “Shiny” Tillett’s murder.

On the Phone: ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“There were about a total of six shooting on that night, but some of the shootings were not aimed at persons; they were non-targeted shootings…just people who were basically firing shots in the air as they grieve. We had three targeted shootings, one of which was the matter with Mister Castillo and we had one which took place near Berger Field where a person was shot in the groin area and one of Cairo Street where a person was shot in the arm and leg. But the other shootings that took place the night were non-targeted shootings.”

“Are those linked also to the Dangriga murder?”

“Well they were done in gang-ridden areas so it is believed that they were sympathizers of the George Street faction and they were showing their sympathy by discharging firearms in the air as they grieve.”

  1. Teddy Steinway says:

Just as likely thes were symbolic warning shots.
Their meaning is to convey that the gangster wars are on again.
They also demonstrate that the perps do not fear the police.
