Huong Chong Park Returns to Court for Her Passport

Huong Chong Park

On February fifth, 2016 Korean Huong Chong Park received Supreme Court bail after more than a week in jail. Park was charged for the little known crime of Abetment of Crime to Pervert the Course of Justice, for her involvement in the very sensational Bradley Paumen case. Park’s bail was set high, but the Judge took into account that she is a businesswoman who travels regularly, and granted her the ability to request her passport from the Court whenever she needs to leave the country. And that’s just what Park did today, what her attorney calls a routine matter.

“Ms. Park had originally been granted bail by the Supreme Court in the large amount of seventy-five thousand dollars on the fifth of February this year. Actually two of the conditions—one was that she reports to the police every Friday in Belmopan and the other one was that she must surrender her travel documents. In the event she needs to leave the country on legitimate grounds, the court must be approached and give permission for her to leave the country. And in fact she has to leave and that application was made and her, in the presence of a Crown Counsel from the office of the D.P.P. and the circumstances given to the court, permission was granted for Miss Park to leave the country to attend to her business and family and to return in time for her next court hearing, which is set for May in the Belmopan magistrate’s court. So it’s a routine matter; it is a situation where a court can review an application where there is reasonable grounds to allow a person to approach the court following certain terms and conditions.”
