Inspector Oscar Puga, Acting Officer Commanding, CIB

“The Operational Patrol Team responded to the area. They were patrolling in the area so they responded very quickly. They managed to apprehend one person fleeing from the scene not too far away from where the robbery occurred. As a result, the police escorted that person to the Queen Street Police Station and apparently they had recovered properties not too far in an abandoned yard, which apparently was thrown by this mane suspect. In that process, the police also recovered a red, two-door car, which is suspected to have been used as the getaway vehicle. But apparently the vehicle could not start so the culprits left the vehicle in the area and fled the scene.”

The suspect police did manage to apprehend is Shawn Robinson, who has been charged for the robbery. Authorities are now looking for three other suspects. Meanwhile the Acting Officer Commanding the Criminal Investigation Branch, Inspector Oscar Puga, says over the Independence holiday they saw an increased in robberies.

“Specifically over the twentieth night and the twenty-first night we have seen increases in robberies mainly committed by young men on bicycles either with firearms or other weapons such as knives or machetes.”

“At this time since the celebrations are actually over, I am sure that we will be seeing a decrease in that type of robbery. However, the public still needs to be aware of their surroundings. When walking on the streets, they need be walking as a couple or in groups and don?t forget the lighting of the area they are in and always be aware of exactly where they are going.”

Puga says the police did manage to recover some of the stolen items in the Wednesday night robbery including over four hundred dollars in cash, an assortment of phone cards and personal documents.
