Mayor Bradley on Municipal Projects

Darrell Bradley

The Council has been working closely with the Belize Tourism Board and the National Institute of Culture and History on a series of programs to enhance the character of Belize City. These include projects to address the issue of sanitation as well as working with the police to ensure a reduction in crime and making sure that the experience for residents and tourists is enhanced. Bradley also spoke on the installation of a bust of George Price in the city.

Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor

“This is part of a wider activity to really commemorate and litter Belize City with positive expressions of our Belizean-ness. Very shortly, the city council again through sponsorship from the private sector will unveil a statute, a bust, of the Right Honorable George Price. We were hoping to do that this week at the same time when we unveiled this Belize sign. That bust is being crafted by Steven Okeke and we received a donation from the Holy Redeemer Credit Union, in keeping with our workings with the private sector. And one of the things that I was very concerned with is that George Price was a former mayor of Belize City, the Father of our Nation, and in the entire of Belize City there is no statue that bears his likelihood. You will also see at the roundabout on the Northern Highway, again Benny’s has adopted that roundabout and they are doing a monument there that will replicate all the cultures of Belize City and the center piece of that monument will be a very large Belize flag. Again, really trying to promote a positive image of Belize City and a positive value. Very shortly also we will unveil a Welcome to Belize Sign along the northern highway as you cross the Haulover Bridge. Again, we are speaking about physical improvements with the infrastructure, we are talking about major projects like that Yarborough Development project. But I do believe there are a lot of smaller interventions like a Belize sign , like a bust of George Price, like a welcome sign to Belize City that really can inculcate in our citizens a very, very positive image, feeling and expression of Belize City.”
