Park security guard charged with Attempted Murder

And in news from the courts, the Belize City Council officially opened a restroom in the Battlefield Park last Thursday, but it was a little too late for Duane Staine. On June fourteenth Staine was caught urinating in the park and when a CitCo security guard, twenty-one year old Dekel Bennett, confronted him about it, things got heated. Staine reportedly got upset and threw a rock at Bennett, hitting him in the head. But Bennett is the one behind bars because he allegedly retaliated by stabbing Staine four times during the altercation. Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie remanded Bennett on Monday on charges of Attempted Murder, Grievous Harm and Use of Deadly Means of Harm. He is to return to court on July twenty-ninth.
