Vega Says G.O.B. is Strapped For Resources to Monitor Protected Areas

Gaspar Vega

There is hope for that meeting to take place, since Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Gaspar Vega is all too aware of the lack of resources which prohibits government departments from adequately monitoring protected areas.

Gaspar Vega, Minister of Agriculture

“That’s a huge challenge, because we all know of our limitations in regards to resources – human resources and financial resources – and if you listened to me at the House meeting I had mentioned that we have a lot of different N.G.O.s that are always going to the media, making an issue, and I have invited them to openly come but don’t come only with criticisms, come with solutions, assist us financially. I mean to say we can introduce new legislation tomorrow, but what is the use of introducing new legislation and we don’t have the resources to police. That’s one of our main challenges. As we speak our Ministry is working thoroughly with IICA and different organizations internationally…if they can use us as a pilot project where we will be able to monitor our vessels…there’s technology now but it’s very costly, so that we can know who is in the area, how long they’ve been there, do they have a license? These are the things that we need, but they’re not cheap.”

Well then, you can start your contribution by returning money that you, your nephew and family members blatantly stole from the country of Belize. Why don’t you be the first one to become transparent and declare all the properties you , your family members and Land Commisioner Vallejos acquired illegally in your names and assumed names? I bet you won’t!
