Musical ensemble strikes the right cord

Story PictureIf you’re in the mood for live entertainment, then you can head to the Bliss Institute of the Performing Arts for a live concert this coming weekend. The Belize School of Music will be wowing audiences with their end of school year performances on Sunday. The recital will feature over thirty students from ages four and up with a diverse repertoire of music including a unique arrangement of the National Anthem. The school is well-known for its flute recital and a vocal ensemble video recording, but the concert at the Bliss will be their biggest performance yet. The director of the school says there will also be original compositions.

“There’ll be a wide range from jazz, things like Take the A-Train, and Gershwin, to Beethoven, to Mozart.”

“And, about how many students will be performing?”

“There’ll be over thirty students performing and what’s special is that some of these students who will be performing original compositions as well. The student who will close the performance this year will be giving her farewell performance in Belize. She’s Susan Lin and she’ll be moving on to university studies to major in music.”

“I’m going to study music composition in Taiwan.”

“And what do you hope to accomplish for the future?”

“I hope to become a composer, a conductor, or probably a music therapist.”

“What’s your favourite part of performing or playing the piano?”

Susan Lin
“I like the part where you feel connected to the music.”

Tickets are available with prices ranging from ten dollars for seats in the upper tier, to twenty dollars for the lower level.
