Vega Says He’ll Remain Active in Orange Walk North

Gaspar Vega

There has been rampant speculation that Vega’s resignation is a result of the Ministry of Lands being removed from him after general elections of November fourth, 2015. One very popular trend of thought is that frustrated by the loss of stature within the Party, Vega wanted to send a very strong message to the Prime Minister. Vega claims nothing could be further from the truth, and confirmed that despite rumors to the contrary, he is still very much an active and working member of the United Democratic Party.

Gaspar Vega, Area Representative, Orange Walk North

“I want to reiterate that I have done that for the United Democratic Party long before I got elected as a representative; even when I didn’t have in mind to run as a representative. I don’t see anything that will change that. I definitely don’t want a P.U.P. government.”

“Sir, just a while ago, when we were asking you on the issue of the Lands Ministry being taken away from you played a role, you didn’t give a direct response. It leaves room for interpretation. Can you just address it directly sir so that there is no doubt as to if that played a role or not in your decision to step down.”

“You know it’s so funny. You guys always pick what you want. I said it clear, the most important fact for my decision was the last year and a half that I’ve lived as a politician and in truth that is the reason. I have a young family. I have two kids—one is fifteen and one is thirteen. I haven’t been spending time with my kids for so long. And I am going to continue. It’s not like I’m leaving my people; I’m going to continue working for them, I’m going to continue delivering for them like no one else has ever delivered for them because I need to ensure that that division stays for the U.D.P. I would like to ask you for a moment now. I would like to thank the people of Orange Walk North; the people that have allowed me in their homes. I wanna say thanks to those from San Jose, San Pablo, Douglas, San Louis, San Roman, San Antonio, Santa Cruz, Otro Benque and Trial Farm. Thank you for opening your homes to me. I will forever be grateful to the great people of Orange Walk North; of the opportunity they have given me to represent them. I sincerely believe that I did a very good job in representing them and I wouldn’t want to cheat them to stay just because I want power. If I cannot deliver what I think I should, then it is time for a younger person or someone else more vibrant with more energy—energies that I have maybe ten years ago. That’s what we want. we have to know when to go.”
